Veterans Rapid Retraining Assistance Program (VRRAP)

ICOHS College proudly supports our Military/Veteran community by working closely with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to bring you new training opportunities and funding sources. Our Veteran community has experienced many employment challenges with some exhausting all of their benefits and still cannot find stable employment due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

To help address this rising unemployment problem, the American Rescue Plan of 2021 included $17 billion for several veterans programs. One of them was the Veterans Rapid Retraining Assistance Program (VRRAP). This program helps veterans that have been affected by COVID-19 and provides them with training in high-demand jobs to gain meaningful employment. We’re going to dissect and explain what the VRRAP program is, who is eligible, and what programs are covered so that you can get started with your career transition using VRRAP funding today!

What is VRRAP?

The Veteran Rapid Retraining Assistance Program (VRRAP) offers short-term education and training into a high-demand career path for Veterans who are unemployed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Keep reading to find out if you’re eligible and how to apply.

Frequently asked questions

To be eligible for this program, you must meet all the requirements listed here.

All of these must be true. You’re:

  • At least 22 years old, but not older than 66, and
  • Unemployed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and
  • Not rated as totally disabled because you can't work, and
  • Not enrolled in a federal or state jobs program

Note: You can't receive VRRAP benefits at the same time as you're receiving unemployment benefits (including CARES Act benefits).

If I'm eligible for other education benefits or VR&E, can I get VRRAP benefits?

No. At the time you apply for VRRAP, you can’t be eligible for any of these other benefits:

Note: You can get VRRAP benefits if you were at one time eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill but you’ve transferred all of your benefits to family members.

VRRAP will be available until December 11, 2022. We'll stop making payments on this date—or when we reach either the $386 million funding limit or the 17,250 participant limit.

To fill out your application, you will need your:

  • Social Security Number
  • Bank Account Direct Deposit Information

Funding for the VRRAP program is available right now, so if you meet the eligibility requirements, now is the time to take advantage of this program. Even though funding is still available for this program, this program was created to help as many veterans as possible, and the program is moving quickly.

Funds for the VRRAP program will end when any of these happen:

  • 21 months after the creation (December 11, 2022).
  • The maximum number of 17,250 participants is reached.
  • The $386 million budget is spent.
