The Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation, established in 2003, honors the legacy of Congresswoman Patsy Mink by promoting educational access and equity for low-income women, particularly mothers.
The foundation offers Education Support Awards of up to $5,000 to assist low-income women with children who are pursuing post-secondary education or training. Eligibility criteria include:​
Age and Parental Status: Applicants must be at least 17 years old and have minor children.​
Educational Pursuit: Applicants should be pursuing their first post-secondary degree or credential (e.g., vocational, associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral).​
Institution Requirements: Enrollment must be at a non-profit, accredited institution or program in the U.S. that does not discriminate based on sex/gender, LGBTQ+ status/identity, race/ethnicity, religion, disability, or immigration status.​
Income Limits: Annual family income must be less than $20,000 for a family of two; less than $25,000 for three; or less than $30,000 for four. ​
The application period for the 2025-2026 academic year will open on May 1, 2025, with a deadline of August 1, 2025. Detailed application instructions and requirements will be available on the foundation’s website in late spring 2025.
