Who Is a Cyber Security Specialist?

Our world has become reliant on modern technology for almost everything. But, as our interconnectedness grows, so do the chances for cyber criminals to steal, destroy, or disrupt our lives. Here is where cybersecurity specialists come in. The increase in cybercrime has increased the demand for cybersecurity professionals. Between 2020 and 2030, the job market in the cybersecurity industry is predicted to rise by 33%.

Cybersecurity professionals, also known as information security specialists or network security specialists, play a critical role in safeguarding the network and information systems of corporations and other organizations. They accomplish this through the detection, management, analysis, presentation, and response to cyber attacks, security threats, and other hostile activities.

In other words, they protect sensitive data and the business’s integrity and guarantee that the systems’ design and execution provide high network security solutions that defend against hackers, cyber attacks, and other potential dangers.

What Does a Cyber Security Specialist Do?

Cybersecurity professionals design and implement security audits and assessments for computer hardware and software systems. They ensure that the networks and computer systems are up to date, free of software flaws, function as they should, and are not vulnerable to cyber attacks. They continuously monitor security systems and networks for abnormalities and document and report such actions.

A Cybersecurity specialist’s job also includes designing firewalls and other security measures to ensure that information and proprietary networks adhere to the most recent security requirements. Among these job responsibilities, they also:

  • Identify the most efficient methods for securing IT infrastructure
  • Test security plans and defenses
  • Educate coworkers about security rules and recommended practices
  • Detect assaults or intrusions and take mitigating measures
  • Investigate new strategies employed by cyber criminals
  • Keep abreast of emerging trends, techniques, and processes for thwarting assaults

Industry Certifications

The Cyber Security Specialist Certification Program will prepare you for your career by attaining the necessary technical skills to pass various industry certifications such as:

Passing the CompTIA A+ exam demonstrates a core set of skills pertaining to information technology.

CompTIA A+ certified professionals are proven problem solvers. They support today’s core technologies from security to cloud to data management and more. CompTIA A+ is the industry standard for launching IT careers into today’s digital world.

CompTIA Network+ tests your ability to securely establish, maintain and troubleshoot essential networks.

Unlike other vendor-specific networking certifications, CompTIA Network+ prepares candidates to support networks on any platform. CompTIA Network+ is the only certification that covers the specific skills that network professionals need.

CompTIA Security+ is the first security certification a candidate should earn. It establishes the core knowledge required of any cybersecurity role and provides a springboard to intermediate-level cybersecurity jobs.

Security+ incorporates best practices in hands-on troubleshooting, ensuring candidates have practical security problem-solving skills

CompTIA PenTest+ is for cybersecurity professionals tasked with penetration testing and vulnerability management.

PenTest+ assesses the most up-to-date penetration testing, and vulnerability assessment and management skills necessary to determine the resiliency of the network against attacks.

CompTIA Cloud+ is a global certification that validates the skills needed to deploy and automate secure cloud environments that support the high availability of business systems and data.

CompTIA Cloud+ is the only performance-based IT certification that views cloud-based infrastructure services in the context of broader IT systems operations regardless of the platform. Migrating to the cloud presents opportunities to deploy, optimize, and protect mission critical applications and data storage.

CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+) is an IT workforce certification that applies behavioral analytics to networks and devices to prevent, detect and combat cybersecurity threats through continuous security monitoring.

  • Leverage intelligence and threat detection techniques
  • Analyze and interpret data
  • Identify and address vulnerabilities
  • Suggest preventative measures
  • Effectively respond to and recover from incidents
