The Horatio Alger Career & Technical Education Scholarship provides financial assistance to students pursuing career-focused education in technical fields after high school. These awards are designed to support students who have demonstrated resilience in overcoming adversity, exhibit strong academic potential, and intend to enter a career or technical training program. Scholarship funds can be used to help cover tuition, books, supplies, and other expenses associated with accredited career and technical education programs.
Applicants must be enrolled in or plan to enroll in a post-secondary career, technical, or vocational program in the United States. Eligible fields include, but are not limited to, automotive technology, welding, electrical technology, cosmetology, culinary arts, medical assisting, HVAC, and other workforce-ready disciplines. To qualify, students should show financial need and a history of perseverance despite personal challenges. Many recipients are first-generation college students or have faced economic hardship.
The application process typically includes submission of an online application, academic records, a description of career goals, and essays that highlight the applicant’s journey and motivations. Recipients are selected based on a combination of financial need, personal character, and demonstrated commitment to career-focused education. These scholarships are awarded annually, with deadlines and award amounts published each year. The Horatio Alger Career & Technical Education Scholarship aims to empower students on their path to meaningful careers and lifelong success.
